These 3 ingredient condensed milk fruit squares are so delicious and so easy to make. Made with just 3 ingredients, these chewy, fruity little squares make a great snack.
I really love easy to make snacks, and especially with my snack loving family, quick and easy recipes are the best.
Mixed in one bowl, and baked in under 25 minutes, these truly fall into that best category...and then who can resist a dessert or cookie made with sweet creamy condensed milk….definitely not me.
NO EGGS, OIL OR BUTTER
There are no eggs, oil or butter used in this recipe.
The sweetened condensed milk serves as a binding agent, holding all the ingredients together. Then, of course, there is also no added sugar as well, because we are using sweetened condensed milk which already contains sugar.
ADD ZEST TO THE MIX FOR A TANGY FLAVOUR
The dried fruit, which I use in this recipecontains a mixture of raisins, sultanas, currants, candied peel and sometimes cherries. If you have cranberries, go ahead and add that to the mixture if you like, maybe in place of cherries.
On a few occasions, I have also added grated lemon or orange zest to the mix. It has a different taste to the candied peel, in that it has a more tangy flavour.
WHERE TO FIND DRIED FRUIT MIX OR USE THE FOLLOWING AS A SUBSTITUTE
Dried fruit mix is usually found in the baking aisle of your grocery store, near the raisins, dates, or dried fruit.
If you are unable to find or get dried fruit cake mix, then just use a combination of raisins, cranberries, cherries, currants.
The ratio of each is not really important, just make sure that when combined it should be 1 ½ cups. Or you could just use plain raisins and grate in a bit of lemon or orange zest.
MAKING THE CONDENSED MILK FRUIT SQUARES
Super easy, all 3 ingredients, that being the self-raising flour, sweetened condensed milk, and dried fruit mix are combined with a spoon in a bowl.
Empty the mixture into a greased and lined an 8 x 12 inch / 20 x 30 cm pan.
Spread out and level the mixture as evenly as possible. Bake at 356°F / 180°C for 20 to 25 minutes. It should form a light golden crust and base when baked. Cut into squares and dust with icing / powdered sugar.
You should line your baking tin with baking/parchment paper, this will help to remove the baked fruit squares effortlessly and make cutting into portions much easier.
That's it, just 3 ingredients, super easy and super yum!
Enjoy ♥
