4, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was a fisheries biologist with NOAA's National Marine Fisheries of Service, Commerce under for the U.S. Dept. past 12 years, stationed at the James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory Sandy Hook.

She worked through the Habitat Conservation Program to preserve, enhance and protect the wetlands and waters needed for the survival of important fish and shellfish, especially in the states of New Jersey and Delaware. She authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers and notes and served on a number of interagency committees to develop solutions to complex coastal development and fisheries habitat issues. Her dedication and innovative approaches to problems gained her considerable respect among her peers and colleagues. Her tireless efforts to safeguard the marine environment resulted in the protection and restoration of hundreds of acres of vital fish habitat. She also received awards and recognitions, such as the NOAA Bronze Medal and the Vice President Gore "Hammer Award." She also was a teacher and marine educator at the Marine Science Consortium, Sandy Hook, developing programs for school children.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Atlantic Highlands and was involved with the church choir. She received her master's degree in education from Monmouth University, West Long Branch. Born in Brooklyn, she resided in Neptune and Bradley Beach before moving to Atlantic Highlands in 1999. ANITA RIPORTELLA, 59, of ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, died She was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Margot Holmen Riportella. Surviving are her husband, Paul Kleiser; and a cousin, Chris Riportella of New Milford.

Lehrer. When Lehrer later became a state Superior Court judge, she became his secretary and worked with him for several years before she retired in 1988. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., she lived there and in Rochester, N.Y., Wallingford, and Freehold Township, before moving to New Bern in 1990. A graduate of Holy Angels Academy, Buffalo, she enjoyed taking cruises with her friends, bowling and football (especially the Buffalo Bills), but her most treasured times were those spent with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Richard Shipkowski, in 1995. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Paul Haynes of Melbourne, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Susan of Clarksville, Michael and Susan of Cary, N.C., and Bruce of Toms River; three granddaughters, Sarah Shipkowski, Kelly Shipkowski, and Alison Shipkowski; four grandsons, Eric Haynes, Alex Haynes, Neil Klaproth, and Adam Klaproth and his wife, Mindy; and a greatgrandson, Logan Klaproth.
