North Andover - Richard S. Walker, of North Andover, MA passed away suddenly May 17, 2024. Rick forged a successful career specializing in Finance and IT and was employed at New Balance for over the past 20 years.Family is the nucleus of Rick's life. He is the devoted husband of Ethel (Campbell) Walker with whom he shared the past 40 years of his life and treasured 37 years of marriage, proud father to Ronald Campbell and his wife Ellen, adored Beepa to his favorite grandchildren Meredith and Logan Campbell, and companion to his co-pilot and best girl Coco. He is predeceased by a son, Richard Walker.Growing up, Rick played on a variety of school sports teams. When he wasn't playing on a team, he was playing in the streets and backyards with his childhood friends Dennis, Charlie, Bobby, Dave, and Pat. He also enjoyed following his favorite bands around New England and beyond. His favorite place to be was with his wife at their summer home on Little Island Pond in Pelham, NH. As soon as the first good stretch of Spring weather moved in, so did Rick and Ethel. They enjoyed the stunning sunset views from their dock in the evenings, and watching the fireworks display put on around Independence Day by their LIP neighbors. Many summer days were spent hosting family and friends on the water. After enjoying the cottage with his wife and sons for many years, he got to do it all over again with his grandchildren. Watching them learn to swim and kayak, catching them as they jumped off the dock over and over (and over) again, an endless supply of hot dogs that HAD to be grilled by Beepa himself, and toasting extra-large marshmallows on sticks he always had ready for them. Creating these memories with their family at the cottage they loved so much inspired them to begin the process of making it their permanent residence so they would be next door to their grandchildren every day.In addition to his immediate family, Rick is survived by a sister-in-law Rose (Rick) Mickunas; cousins Denise Keeley, William (Josephine) Warnock, the late George (Rose) Warnock, and their respective families.Rick valued the company of his closest friends Dennis Young & Susan Reale, Charlie (Anne) Davidson, Bobby (Donna) Barrett, Dave Dortona, Pat (Renee) Mogauro, Bill (Roberta) Hayden, Elie Khoury, Dawn & Dennis Silva, Jack (Lori) Keating, and Michael (Hind) Asmar.Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:30 at St. Michael Church in North Andover. Andover - Joan C Hegarty, born April 13th, 1935, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family the evening of May 6th, 2024 in Haverhill, MA, at the age of 89 (32,531 days).Joan was born in Methuen and raised in Haverhill in a farmhouse right on the New Hampshire border where she could see the northern lights from her bedroom window as a child. She received an undergraduate degree in political science from Merrimack College, Class 1957 and attended Boston College and Johns Hopkins Universities obtaining additional degrees as well as her real estate license later on. She also taught political science at the high school and university levels.Joan was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Puchtler) and Joseph Chechowitz and is survived by her devoted and caring son, Dan of Alexandria, VA, multiple nephews, nieces and extended family. Joan was predeceased by her her devoted husband of 43 years, Bill, with whom she attended both Merrimack College and Johns Hopkins University.Joan was a lifelong New Englander, having traveled only to realize that New England area is her true home. She was a voracious reader (sometimes a book a day as a kid) and very plugged into the world around her.Joan was dignified, warm, charming, independent, and equally caring to all regardless of family connection, status, age or any other quality. In her later life "Aunt Joan" became a endearing moniker. In the 1960s, while at BC, she compiled copious voting registrations and records from multiple towns as part of a graduate school thesis, created and calculated results.....by hand.....traveling to painstakingly retrieve records from various town halls and libraries all over eastern Massachusetts.Although she appreciated finer things, she lived a very real and modest daily life; never feeling entitled and was easily comfortable at a 5 star restaurant one night and a 5 Guys the next. She instinctively wasted nothing which gave her an air of gratitude. Upon being offered the option to put a handicapped placard in her car at an age well past 80, she replied "No, that would be cheating."Joan was spiritual, faithful, down to earth and grounded, appreciating social justice elements such as women's rights and the environmental movements decades ahead of their widespread acceptance and popularity.Joan will lay to rest with her husband Bill at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. Their love was an inspiration to all who witnessed it, a testament to the enduring power of partnership and devotion.Visiting hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at Conte Funeral Home in North Andover, 17 Third St., North Andover MA 01845, with memorial Mass at St. Michael's in N.
