Leftover Donut Bread Pudding: A Frugal Recipe

Leftover donuts have never tasted this good. The original version of this Leftover Donut Bread Pudding recipe was posted on my first blog – Frugalista Farm Life. I am definitely channeling our Grandma K when I make this dish. Our grandma was the queen of frugal living. A child of the Depression, she did not waste ANYTHING!

Grandma’s frugal gene was passed to me – her youngest grandchild – a quality that I am proud of even if my family gives me a hard time about it. I now live in our grandparent’s house on our family’s farm. Many of the plates, bowls and baking dishes (like the one below) were our grandma’s and I still love using them when cooking for my family.

Use real cake flour – not DIY cake flour!

DIY substitutions don't really cut it, and AP flour will not create doughnuts with that same soft texture. Also, bleached cake flour will work best. Unbleached (like King Arthur Baking) won't absorb as much moisture, and you may end up with doughnuts that crumble while frying.

Why did Krispy Kreme stop making cream-filled donuts? ›

While it might seem strange that Krispy Kreme would discontinue one of its very first, classic doughnut makeups, this is exactly what happened. The Original Glazed Vanilla Kreme-filled was pushed to the side to make way for a newer, altered version of the same in 2019.

Wait for the cookies to cool completely, then transfer them to a reusable freezer-safe bag or container lined with wax or parchment paper. Are donuts better, fried or baked? ›
